LDS Singles Online Dating Precautions
LDS Singles Connection members should pay close attention to the below advice
regarding online safety for singles. All LDS singles online profiles are not necessarily what
they appear to be. We highly recommend that all LDS members take the following
precautionary measures when dealing with other singles online.
1. Do NOT readily reveal your physical address and/or phone number. Keep it private.
We also recommend that you get a free email from Hotmail, Yahoo, or Juno. One that
you can use to communicate with members, that is different from a normal work or home address.
Your safety is more important than anything else!
2. Get References! Beginning with "Mom", and including co-workers, friends, and family
members. Write in your e-mail,"Since I don't know you, can I have your mother's phone
number?" We're serious about this one - if someone is married, he or she won't exactly
want you talking to their mother! Call the mother from a pay phone. Otherwise, if the
mother has caller ID, she'll have your home phone number to give to her son. Remember
that you cannot afford to take anything that has been written on a profile at face value.
You owe it to yourself to verify any or all information.
Ask LOTS of questions. Your safety is more important than anything else!
3. When you meet for the first time, meet in a group setting such as a dance, picnic,
party, dinner, or religious meeting. If he is divorced, you may ask him to bring a
copy of his divorce decree, or verify it some other way. Meet him with your friends
beside you. Whatever you do, the first time you meet, don't meet alone, nor at night.
Your safety is more important than anything else!
4. If you meet alone the first time you meet.......DON'T MEET ALONE! Your safety is more
important than anything else!
5. Watch for behavior such as anger, demeaning or disrespectful comments, physically
inappropriate comments and behavior, intense frustration or attempts at pressuring
or controlling you are obvious warning signs. Below are a few more:
Information about age, interests, appearance, marital status, profession, employment,
and other information is inconsistent.
Will not speak to you on the phone after establishing an ongoing relationship online.
dodges and will not directly answer questions.
In person is quite different from his or her online profile.
Will not introduce you to friends, professional associates or family members
6. You may also do a background check if you'd like:
BACKGROUND CHECKS
These precautions are not written on the assumption that many single men or women are
dishonest predators, but that sadly, a certain percentage are. We believe that most
of our members are honest and wonderful people, and we wish all men and women the
very best in their dating and courting endeavors. And did we mention: Your safety
is more important than anything else!
